The price of….freedom? Wrong answer, try again.

May 28, 2009

So I have returned from a long hiatus.  The hiatus being watching my brother leave for Iraq….well, to Wisconsin first, but ultimately going to Iraq.  And, my family was emotional and weepy.  I was a little bit too, initially, until the WV general of the army branch began speaking.  Then, I wanted to shoot myself in the head.  Hearing all the cliches about how they’re fighting for my freedom, etc. It’s incredibly sad to look around and see all these young men (10% were women) with girl/boyfriends, wives/husbands, small children, moms and dads, and think for what?  Not for freedom.  Not for our rights.  Just for politics and oil and revenge.  It just pissed me off.  I wanted t to be there for my brother, but it took all I had not to flip out and get in that fat general’s face.  My father said he’s probably heard it all before.  So, oh well.  Back to business as usual.  Here’s to hoping my brother comes back safe and sound.
